Physics is at the center of physical science. All other areas of science rest
on it, though they use scientific method to
understand the universe on a higher level. "Higher" , as used here,
refers not to higher significance, but to a focus on
a study of the properties and behaviors systems more complex than those studied
by physicists. For example, biology
is a science that focuses on the behaviors, structure and function of living
things. Biologists may or may not frequently
examine living things in terms of the behavior of atom and molecules. They may
or may not be interested in the mechanics
of the living entity. They may or may not be interested in the laws governing
the distribution of heat in the living things
they study. There is plenty to be learned about living systems without taking
that understanding down to the fundamental
level that a physicist chooses to study. The physicist has plenty to do at the
fundamental level, so he may or may not
spend much time studying the things that a biologist does.
Physics itself is too broad for any one person to understand all of the areas
of focus it includes.
The links presented here have been selected to give an overview of areas of
interest for anyone interested
in phys ics... or should I say, in how physical things work at a fundamental
level. This site will grow. This is a topic
of great interest to me. I will add new material on a regular basis.
